Jac Slade

I’ve always been involved with art and can’t remember ever not drawing or obsessing over colour, books or beautiful stationery.

I trained as a Graphic Designer with a Bachelor or Arts degree majoring in Design and proceeded to then work as a Graphic Designer, Art Director and freelance designer in the marketing sectors. After 17 years and a variety of design roles I found Surface Design and it was my ‘light bulb’ moment. I very quickly fell in love with the world of patterns and textiles and knew instantly this was where I wanted my career to go.

I then began my first surface design class with Make It In Design, one class quickly became all three pattern design modules and their Ultimate Portfolio Builder Class. Then more classes with Bonnie Christine and many many more hours attending Skillshare classes to fine tune my illustration style and skills.

I find coming from a Graphic design background is such an asset when working with patterns. I can use my technical skills to apply to creating seamless repeating tiles, understanding colour, printing and prepress processes.

As a designer and artist I’m always hungry to keep learning and exploring. I love to travel and experience new places and cultures to fuel inspiration. I also love following the fashion catwalks for the latest trends and colours, among my favourite designers are Zuhair Murad, Tory Burch and Ulla Johnson.

My work has been described as bright, bold and sophisticated with a modern vintage vibe.

I love vintage florals, designs from the arts and crafts era, indian florals, japanese kimonos and russian textiles. My favourite artists/designers are Florence Broadhurst and William Morris.

All designs are hand drawn or painted then lovingly turned into seamless repeating patterns with Illustrator or Photoshop. I’m available as a freelance textile designer and licensing artist creating repeating patterns and illustrations for womens and mens fashion brands, activewear, swimwear and home furnishings.

I get such a buzz when I see my designs out in the real world and so far have had the pleasure to work with Patternbank, Komodo Fashion, Colourful Koala Activewear, Florence Store.

Lets Collaborate!

I’d love to see my designs on your products. If you’d like to purchase/license one of my designs please email me: jacqui@jacslade.com
